Matt joined Coefficient Giving in November 2022, as the first lead for our Innovation Policy program. Prior to joining, he worked at the Institute for Progress, Iowa State University, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (where he worked on science policy).
Matt has a Ph.D. in economics from Iowa State University. He has written frequently on topics related to the economics of innovation, whether in the popular press or in his “living literature review” on the topic, titled New Things Under the Sun. He has also published original research in journals like Science and Research Policy. In March 2025, Matt took over Coefficient Giving’s newly launched Abundance and Growth Fund.
