James rejoined Coefficient Giving in January 2026. He first joined the team in 2022 before leaving in 2024 to establish and lead the Mirror Biology Dialogues Fund, a dedicated philanthropic initiative addressing potential risks from the creation of ‘mirror life’. James’ grantmaking portfolio includes a range of areas drawing on his background in drug discovery, basic science, and frontier biotechnology governance.
James completed a PhD in structural biology at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and the University of Cambridge, UK. More recently, he has worked in commercial drug discovery, as a philanthropic advisor, and as a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford.
