This program funds projects that use AI to improve probabilistic forecasting and support sound decision-making. We aim to support the creation of AI models that enhance forecasting accuracy, tools that help with tasks relevant to clear reasoning, and research to understand when models do and do not support truth-oriented reasoning.
Our Potential Risks from Advanced AI program is now called Navigating Transformative AI. While the vast majority of work we fund is still aimed at catastrophic risk mitigation, the new name better captures the full breadth of what we aim to support: work that helps humanity to successfully navigate the transition to transformative AI.
After a competitive process, we have decided to promote Matt to the role of senior program officer to lead our work in the space. His innovation policy grantmaking played a major role in our decision to launch the fund in the first place, and he has shown exceptional judgment in considering new areas for expansion — a key skill needed for this early phase of the Fund.
In October 2024, we shared our plans to launch a new program in partnership with the Livelihood Impact Fund to help stimulate economic growth in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with at least $40 million in funding over the first three years. After an extremely competitive hiring round, we’re excited to announce that we’ve hired Justin Sandefur to lead the program.
We are excited to announce the launch of our new Abundance & Growth Fund, which will spend at least $120 million over the next three years to accelerate economic growth and boost scientific and technological progress while lowering the cost of living.
