About
Project Tailwind

Project Tailwind is Coefficient Giving’s call for founders to launch ambitious AI safety initiatives. We’re looking for exceptional people to engage seriously with the risks of transformative AI, and to create the research, technologies, and institutions that will help humanity navigate them.

The world is not ready. There are critical, basic problems that no one owns. Any industry whose failures can cause serious harm needs a safety ecosystem. Aviation has certification authorities and incident investigators; medicine has trial regulators and disease surveillance; finance has independent auditors and deposit insurance. Until recently, AI had nothing like that. Now people are starting to build it.

We think this may be the most important problem of our time, and top talent is the bottleneck to progress. An ecosystem needs institutions, and institutions need founders. Tailwind is one attempt to find and fund those founders. Alongside this public call we’re launching a talent scouts program, offering a bounty for successful founder referrals, stepping up our direct outreach, and partnering with other organizations to host pitch days and workshops.

We’re looking for people who care more about solving big problems than making big profits. We need “philanthropic founders”: entrepreneurs with the drive and vision to build something from nothing, pursuing social good that the markets won’t provide on their own. It won’t be easy. We think the stakes are high enough to be worth trying anyway.
